Okay. I've been working on this off and on for a while and finally just finished it. I thought this would be something fun to do. I wrote up a profile for Akiko before she became all dead and stuff so you can see what the former Captain was like. This is in case there's ever like a flashback battle or a crazy-ass Battle Royale thread xP Yeah.
--------------
Name: Akiko Hayashi
Gender: Female
Physical Description: The artistic Captain has rather plain light brown shoulder-length hair that flips out a tad at the ends. Her eyes are just as plain as her hair. Her hands are very delicate, not the kind that you would ever expect to be wielding a sword. She always carries with her a small book in which she can write or draw if the urge ever strikes her. Her clothing consists of the standard Captain's wardrobe, with no real additions outside of a smallish (think Souseiseki) black tophat that she seems to wear as often as not and a black cloak that fastens at the upper-right portion of her chest.
Personality: Akiko can be considered somewhat eccentric and a tad bit morbid during battle, though she never lapses from her poetic speech patterns. The woman seems to have a poem or proverb to fit almost any situation, though most of the time no one knows who the original author of the poems is. She always says exactly what she means, though sometimes it is hidden under layers of metaphor and subtext. She also greatly dislikes it when people don't trust her, quickly growing violent with the offender
History: Akiko grew up during the Heian period of Japanese history, in a small town that has long since been lost to time. The town she grew up in was a small farming community thats main trade item was saké. But because of the unusually striking scenery in and around it, it was also a rather common spot for poets and artists to congregate, even drawing a good number of the Thirty-Six Immortal Poets from time to time. Due to this, Akiko was much more cultured than any small-town girl should have been.
She absolutely loved the poetry that Sosei Hoshi wrote, finding him to be one of her favourites. Akiko also enjoyed watching the painters that came by, eventually trying it out herself. She was surprisingly talented for a 7-yr-old and was told by the artists to keep at it. She eventually took a shot at poetry as well, which she found she enjoyed much more than painting but wasn't quite as good at. Both were practiced as often as possible, during every moment that she had free. Soon, she had gained quite a reputation, even having managed to sell a scroll that she had painted and transcribed a poem onto. This occured once she was 14. The picture had been a rather strange one; a large black beast with a white mask being confronted by a human in black weilding a sword. She swore over and over that she only painted what she actually saw; but this, no one believed.
2 years later, the small town was visited by some travelling foreigners wanting to see the pristine beauty of the small town between two mountains.Being the curious one that she was, Akiko wanted to speak with the blonde visitors. All she learned was that there existed this mysterious thing called a language barrier. It took quite some time, but she and one of the men somehow managed to teach each other their native tongues. They mainly exchanged legends and traditions, Akiko becoming absolutely enamoured by the European view of death and their concept of The Grim Reaper.
After about another week, the Westerners decided it was time for them to take their leave, the blonde asking Akiko if she would like to accompany him back to the lands from which he hailed. Akiko jumped right on the offer, wanting to paint and write poetry about more areas. She also wanted to talk with more Westerners and experience their culture first hand.
When the troupe got back to where they came from, Akiko was overwhelmed. Everything was so different! She loved every moment of her stay in the European countries, and was especially taken with this thing that they called a tophat. Everything was fine until she managed to get on the wrong side of the Christian church. She never figured out exactly what she did, but whatever it was had earned her execution at the age of twenty.
She was sent to Rukongai shortly after, and soon knew exactly what it was that she had been seeing during her life. The young poet was placed in a rather decent district somewhat close to Seireitei and would have liked to continue her un-life as a painter and poet, but since she had been able to see Hollows and Shinigami in her life, she was immediatley drafted into the SHinigami academy.
Her progress was astoundingly rapid, the woman showing such an extreme amount of raw talent that everyone knew she was destined to ascend to the rank of Captain.
It didn't take her long to get there, either. Maybe 2/3 the average time, give or take a few years.
