Full Character Name: Galm Ingram
Pronunciation:
Galm: Gallm (Take "Gallbladder," get rid of the "bladder," and put in an "M" sound.)
Ingram: In-Grum.
Rank: Seated Officer, Squad III.
Gender: Female
Theme Song:
Black Magic Woman by Santana
Those Who Fight Further by The Black Mages.
Physical Description: Galm stands exactly 6' tall; her muscles, however, aren't much to boast about, which for someone formerly in an Earth Army. Her hairdo is a simple straight-to-the-shoulders cut, and is extremely light blond; from a distance, it almost looks white. Her eyes are a deep blue, approximately this shade. Her pearly-whites are, indeed, pearly-white. There is nothing descriptive about her clothes, being standard-issue Shinigami garb. If she were to get thrown at you, it would hurt, due to her lack of curves and presence of bones. She lacks scarring (as far as the general public knows) Her neck is essentially a giant burn scar with a lightning bolt down the center, acquired immediately after her fight with Juno. In addition, she has a lightning-bolt shaped scar over her stomach, which she got at the same time.
Like her Captain, she's unusual in that she doesn't come from the orient; she's of German descent. Nothing about her is very intimidating, even her height, unless she gets angry. Even when she is mad, however, she doesn't exactly instill fear inthe hearts of her foes. She isn't very beautiful, either; a quick glance, especially from over 10 feet away, is not enough to ascertain her gender.
Personality: Overall, Galm is good-natured, and usually can be seen with a smile on her face. However: she is quite out-spoken, especially about what she views as recklessness, which has lead to some "minor" confrontations within the ranks of the Shinigami; Capt. Yuudai in particular. Her non-intimidating presence is, however, something she tends to capitalize on when being attacked, preferring to let her enemies under-estimate her. As her Captain's fighting style works is based on receiving the majority of attacks, the two mesh well. When in a fight, she keeps her zanpakutoh sheathed, preferring to use kidou to cut them to ribbons rather than her zanpakutoh. Further splitting her from some of her more hack-and-slash based shinigami counterparts, Officer Ingram also harbors a deadly, deadly fear of those demonic hellspawn know only as clowns.
Background:
Born in Germany at the close of the 20th century, Galm was always opposed to violence. In fact, had she been born in America, people might've though her parents were hippies. They were quite the opposite, however; when she went to America on vacation, most people called her a hard-core straight-edge, though some called her a pansy and overly-prudent. Their words didn't bother her, though.
Galm graduated head of her class in her Berlin High School. However, despite (or perhaps because of) her strict life, she was always fascinated by magic. In fact, she wanted to pursue it as a career, but her parents made him go to Harvard Medical College in America. She attended on a scholarship; she graduated head of her class there, too. It was all wrote up in the German papers at the time; gonna be a great doctor, Galm was.* That's what people thought, at least; now that she'd graduated and satisfied her parents, Dr. Ingram finally pursued her original career of choice.
Going by the stage name of "The Physician Magician," Galm toured the country, becoming famous rapidly through the usage of human-body-oriented tricks. Her masterpiece was the "Anatomy Anomaly;" over the course of the trick, the volunteer's body became progressively more jumbled. At the end, the volunteer, doing head, shoulder, knees-and-toes, knees-and-toes would be the same as the audience doing Stomach Tumor, ankles, armpits-and-fingers, armpits-and-fingers.
However, at the pinnacle of her career, a war broke out. Feeling the need to prove that her medical training wasn't a waste, she joined the Army as a field medic. Her unit was deployed to some God-Forsaken Hellhole in the Middle East, just before a major offensive. Being shuffled from one base to another, patching up grunts while taking fire, Galm managed to not panic, feeling that the need to save the life of the person on the ground in front of her outweighed the importance of her own life. This very calmness made her infamous within the ranks of those who were now very actively trying to kill her. They were smart about it, too; they'd use a single shooter to wound someone and, when she came out, would fire everything they had at her.
However, death did eventually catch up to the one keeping others out of death's reach. One day, she was trying to stop the bleeding of someone who'd gotten their legs blown off in an I.E.D. explosion when a mis-guided jihadist fired a well-guided R.P.G. at the two, blowing them into tiny bits. All that education for nothing.*
A shinigami was already on the scene and wasted no time in giving the dead duo a soul burial. When Galm awoke, she was in Rukongai's 5th district, and set about learning where exactly that was and how she'd gotten there.
Eventually, her medical and magical talents became known, and she registered in the Shinigami academy, once again graduating Valedictorian. However, because she's more of a medic than a fighter, she was given the rank of Seated Officer. The Captain of Squad Three, taking his personal fighting style into consideration, requested both to the Highest-Ranking officers and the doctor herself that Galm was assigned to his squad upon seeing her heal wounded sparring Shinigami. It was an offer only a baka would refuse, so of course Galm didn't.
Shortly thereafter, Galm was invited along on a mission to the real world for "woodchipper acquisition." During said mission, though she didn't find the chipper, she proved her worth during a massive ambush by first turning a Gillian against its master, by sending said master on a karma trip (both were previously-untested kidou), and by healing a captain who'd nearly had seppuku performed on him. She had a few injuries, namely a concussion and a few broken ribs; though she was still capable of fighting, she decided she only would in an emergency until she got healed up. Juno's having gone off on a shinigami-hunting spree counted as one, and Galm pursued her. There was no way she could catch up to her, so she started sniping with kidou. One shot landed very close to the fake Akiko, causing Juno to come back and fight Galm.
Only managing to delay Juno for a little bit, Galm received what would ordinarily be mortal wounds. As the possessed Juno went back to Akiko, Galm cauterized her wounds with an explosive spell, inadvertently causing a nuclear holocaust. Having been discovered by shinigami from Fourth Squad, she was carted towards the HQ for emergency treatment, having third-degree burns over 75% of her body.
She survived, however, and now her androgynous nature is redoubled; the fireball singed off every bit of her hair, so it now is the same length as her captain's, leading to a very G. I. Jane look. Surprisingly enough, Galm didn't like Juno very much after that, which lead to her bumping heads from time to time with those who still believed Juno should be brought back alive. One time, literally.
After getting into a scuffle with officer Hotaru Takahashi during (read: right smack in the middle of) a captain's meeting they were illegally attending, Galm received a horrific punishment: she was sent on a mission. With Hotaru. Tahoshi, too, but that's beside the point.
The mission was to Hueco Mondo, the world of the Hollows. They went there to find and kill Kyuuketsuki, the reaper of reapers. They found him...and an army of Hollow ready to tear them into tasty bite-sized pieces. They were able to push back the hordes, but were incapacitated by Kyuu simply flaring up his reiatsu. The strike team retreated back to Seireitei, to find 20 Gillians already in the city, and several other persons in the middle of the group. However, knowing she was far outclassed by said people, she spent most of the battle harassing the menos attacking Seireitei. That is, until the group she was travelling with was hit badly by a stealthy adjuchas; she just barely managed to help the group retreat, and they only got to 4th squad HQ because, while they were being chased, the hollow decided to go after someone who didn't know it was there.
At the makeshift hospital, Galm continued to give aid to the patients almost literally pouring through the doors, having mostly just been smacked around herself. The odd hollow liked to barge in, however, so she would give a slightly more violent aid in the form of a spell or two, before the captain removed its existence.
