When morning came she awoke to find herself surrounded by a group of ruddy looking kids. They all looked at her curiously, most likely at the bruises and cuts that covered her. They decided to take her back to their “home.” It was an old theater on one of the back streets. The kids told her as long as she was there, she had to help out in some way, and that way was thievery. At first, she would stay to herself, scared of the other kids. On her first raid, she met another kid around her age; Kai was his name. The two became inseparable, he taught her how to pick a lock the right way and walk with out making a noise. After Rikka had been with them for a year, they gave her a name, Rikka, which took the place of her birth name. This name carried her honor, and a new future.
As she got older, she started to develop feelings for Kai. One night, they were sent to do a simple raid and bring back food and water for the rest of gang. Kai told her how he would be leaving soon to follow a dream of his. He wanted to become a thief; mostly he wanted to make a name for himself, But he felt bad for leavening the gang, but mostly her. He asked her is she wanted to him, she quickly agreed to and they started to pick the door. The person who lived there, still was in their bed awake, and heard strange nosies coming form outside his room. He grabbed a gun from his nightstands draw and went to see who was in the house. Rikka was thinking about leaving the gang and being with Kai, that she didn't notice the person come up behind her. She heard Kai yell to look out and then was tackled to the floor as the gun went off. Kia then stood and pulled her to her feet, they started to run for the door. The gun went off again and whizzed past Rikka's head, scratching her cheek. She watched, it seemed in slow motion, as the bullet went through Kia's head. She felt his hand grip lessen as he started to fall toward the floor. She gasp, trying to hold back tears she had no way to control. Her body started to tremble as she started to sob out his name. She heaved his body onto her back and walked the last couple feet to the door. From outside she could faintly hear the person who shot him laughing.
She carried him to one of the near by parks, and propped him against a tree. She kissed him on his lips, his warmth already fading. She sat back and looked at him, he looked so peaceful; like he was a sleep. She took out her dagger and cut her palm, and placed it over his wound. She looked at him and was filled with sorrow, she told him. "With your blood in me, you shall continue to run in the night. Your dream shall be carried out through me... " With that she stood, her last tear rolling down her cheeks, his blood coving her shoulder and started to walk back to her home. When she got back everyone wanted to know what had happen to Kai, and why she was covered in blood. After she told everyone one what had happened, they all looked at her in surprise. She soon felt like an outsider, most of the people in the group were Kai's friends and blamed her for his death. She was reminded of her father, and soon became very unemotional.
When she was fifteen, the same age Kai was when he was shot, she left the group and started to make Kia's dream a reality. She was almost glad to get away from them. After a few months, people started to call her The Silver Tigris. On most of her raids she didn't get caught. One the ones that she did, they saw a seductive girl in a white dress. One night her ego got the better of her and she went to steal a diamond from on of the most guarded museums. When she opened her eyes, the first thing she looked at was the chain that hung from her chest. She followed it with her eyes and saw that it connected her to her body. It took her a second to realize she was dead. She swallowed hard and looked around. She hoped to see Kia. She hoped that she could apologize for letting him die.The cop who had shot her was laughing and boasting to his buddies that her had gotten the Silver Tigris. She felt anger swell up inside her and she then heard a loud chink. The chain had broken and began to eat itself. She began to freak out and frantically pull at the chain, trying to get it away from her. She felt something cool touch her forehead and looked up to see a shigami; his Zanpakutoh's hilt against her forehead. He smiled at her and told her it was going to be okay, and then everything went black.
When she woke up, she found that she was placed in the worst part of the Rukongai; it suited her just fine, she was a thief after all. She felt like she was living in a paradise. She found a few younger kids and they made a gang, she was the leader and acted as their role model. They acted as a family, the closest Rikka had come to find. She was content to stay forever. On one dreadful day everything changed. She and one of her fellow thief, Raoul, were looking for something to eat, everyone was gathered at the side of the dirt street. This seemed strange so, she went to see what was happening. She pushed her way to the front and watched as a new student was going into the Seireitei, to become a soul reaper. As he walked by, she suddenly became very dizzy, and in felt like something pushed her to her knees. Later she was told that she could feel his soul pressure and was destined to become a soul reaper.
She tried to avoid going to the academy, academics had never been her thing, but eventually she went. A school setting was a new thing for her. She had never gone to school in the human world, and was taught how to read, wright and do simple math by the older street kids. Because of this, she got into fights, and usually was the one that ended up beat. In a particular bad spat, Kaiya stepped by her side. They lost the fight, but became close friends. When Rikka asked why she had helped her, Kaiya response was: that she was tired of seeing her get beat up, to try to prove a useless point. They studied and practiced together. They each knew a great deal about the other, but Rikka kept her past to herself. She past most of her classes with average grades.
For the most part she has left her past behind. She still has bad flash backs from when she was a kid and it has caused her to have emotional breakdowns. Rikkia, was now her name, because she had long ago lost her birth name. She also wanted to distance herself from her past. The void in her where a family should have been has never been filled, and it bothers her when she finds kids who don't have a family in the Rukongai. That was one of the reasons she wanted to stay, some of the kids treated her like their mother. She still sneaks out to see them, when it not to busy in the
Seireitei. She never found Kai, though she looked hard. She searched 20 of the sections that surrounded her own.
