Character Name:
Raigen Otanaiki
Gender:
Male
Race:
Human
Physical Description:
Raigen is 18 years old. He has light hazel/grey eyes, black hair, with a turquoise streak in his bangs. His hair (from your point of view when you're facing him) on the right side is jaw line length, and it curves around his head, reaching collarbone length on his left side. His bangs hang over his left eye. He has four bobby pins on the shorter side to keep extra, more annoying and shorter bangs in place. He is rather skinny, but not so skinny that you could see his every single rib. Although, you could probably see quite a few of them if he was stretching. He is rather tall, about 5'11", with long slender arms and fingers. His legs are long too, and they are muscular because of his previous association with cross country (or running long distances). He has two piercings in his lip (two rings on the left side), three in each ear (one ring at the top, one size 10 gauge at the bottom, and a thick bar going from the top to the bottom), one ring in the right side of his nose, and three rings in his left wrist.
Personality:
Raigen is a rather quiet boy. He doesn't like talking, but if he does, it'll usually only be to someone he knows well. If he doesn't quite know you yet, then it might be awhile before he begins to speak in a friendly manner toward you.
Also, most people believe he is emo, mostly based on his quietness or his hair style or piercings, but he is not emo. He is not goth either. The thing he is more closely related to would be punk, but he does not like to be stereotyped, and therefore would prefer not to be called anything but his name.
Theme Songs:

Character History:
Raigen started off as a simple high schooler. He lived in Stonegate, Colorado, but he originally came from Rippershausen, Germany. His grades were average, he never participated in demeaning things such as sports or clubs, and he could care less about friends. Every day to him was the same as always; he'd watch life go by him as slow as it possibly could, possibley mocking him and his wish to leave the annoying place.
Every day when school was over, he'd leave and walk home, keeping his head toward the ground as he walked. He'd listen to his iPod as he walked, not caring for anyone who would try to catch his attention. His walk was long, taking about an hour, since he had to walk through a large field that was once used for corn, but is now abandoned and up for sale. The buses didn't come down to his house, and even if they did, he wouldn't ride them. He believed buses to be smelly and cramped.
Out of everything that happened in his ever so slow days, he couldn't wait to get home to be with the thing he loved most; his beautiful dog. It was a white German shepherd/wolf cross, and it was the only thing Raigen believed he had in the world. But, he could not love this dog as much as he wanted to (not in a disgusting way; please do not go there =D). He was not allowed to take him out of the house. If he were to take the beautiful, yet dangerous and hunted dog out into the field, the dog would either be shot, attacked, or stolen by his crazy neighbors. The only one who even knew the dog existed was him. So the poor thing was trapped inside, only allowed to go out into the backyard every few hours for maybe a minute or two to use the bathroom.
Even with such harsh circumstances, Raigen would make sure his precious pet was happy. He made room to play. Since he was an orphan, left alone at age twelve, he had quite a bit of space. So he had turned his parents’ old room into a playroom for his buddy and him.
Now his dog and him did everything together inside. They would play together, eat together, do homework together (whenever Raigen felt like it), they watched television together, and they even slept together.
One quiet night, Hayden and Raigen were innocently laying in their bed, watching the rain quietly drip from the roof, listening to Beethoven's Ode to Joy on low in his stereo/compact disc player. Then, they heard a knock on the door. Hayden let out a slight growl, but Raigen shushed him and left their room to answer the front door. He opened it slowly and slightly, being a little cautious, seeing that it was 11:39 p.m.. "Hello?" A man wearing dark glasses and a tuxedo stood there, looking past him into the house. "This is the residence of Otanaiki Raigen, yes?" The man had a slightly French accent, and slurred his words. His breath smelled of cherry cough drops and toothpaste. Raigen thought nothing of the man and simply stated 'yes'. The man nodded, then asked "May I come in? I need to speak with you with certain matters."
"What is it?"
"School matters." Raigen nodded and moved aside to let the man in. He stepped past Raigen, taking in the view. "This is quite a dump you live in. It's rather, dark and . . . smells of dog. Do you have one?" Raigen looked at the man, instantly growing suspicious of his intentions. "No sir, I don't. Listen, I am not one who does small talk. Just get to the point and leave." The man smirked, noticing that Raigen might be catching onto him. "Sure." He pulled a small hand gun and waved it around. Raigen instantly tensed, realizing that this man had no intention of talking about 'school matters'. Raigen slowly calmed down, and said bluntly "What do you want? If it's money, you're kinda outta luck. I'm practically broke."
"No no no. I'm not here for your money. You see, you may think I'm stupid, but I know you have a dog. And it's got wolf in it, doesn't it? Listen, we've had people watching this place for the past few weeks, since lately you've become more and more distant in school, and your teachers think you're a possible threat." Raigen smiled slightly and leaned on a stool. "So, you want my dog." The man nodded. Raigen tapped his fingers on the stool, as his smile turned into a frown. "I guess that's too bad for you." The man opened his mouth to protest, but instead was hit in the shoulder by a stool. Raigen ran to his room and locked the door. Hayden immediately ran to him and started licking him. But Raigen shooed him away. Raigen ran over to his window and opened it, allowing the rain and wind to blow in his face. As he was about to call his dog, they heard a loud bang on the door. "Damn kid! Get out of there!" Raigen smiled slightly, laughing at the pathetic man inside his mind, and waved for his dog to come. Hayden then ran over, and gracefully leaped through the three-foot high window, barely missing its sill. Raigen then jumped out after him, into the night, and they ran out into the field. Hayden went nuts, loving the feeling of running, feeling the wind beating on his coat, the rain washing him. And Raigen hated it. He was already soaked, and his hair was drooping into his mouth.
Then they heard a gun fire. Hayden and Raigen both froze, listening to their surroundings. Neither heard anything, but the shot had sounded so close, they were both almost sure that someone was near. Hayden then sniffed the air and growled at Raigen. Raigen thingyed his head, looking at his dog with a confused face. Raigen then turned around, only to be shot in the shoulder. Raigen's left hand immediately moved up and clenched his shoulder, as he carefully fingered the now gushing hole in his shoulder. He looked over to the man standing less than ten yards away from where he stood. "Fuck. I missed your heart. Damn bitch dog." Then man stood there holding an 870-Riot Shotgun (yes I had to look this up.). Raigen noticed that the laser beam was on, so he followed the beam, and noticed it was right on Hayden's forehead. Raigen immediately turned around and glared at the man. But all he did was smirk and shoot. Raigen stood helplessly as his favorite being in the whole world was shot in the head. His body fell backwards and twitched, then went limp. Raigen's eyes instantly became blurry, as the tears fell from his eyes. "YOU BASTARD!" Raigen lunged at the shocked man, ripped the gun from his hands, and shot the man in the head.
He then ran through the field, not really aiming to go anywhere, just running for the hell of it. His eyes were blurry, so he did not have much in the way of sight. So he was basically running on blind instinct.
He came up to a solid ground. 'Where am I?', he thought to himself. Then, he froze, hearing the horn of a truck, and looked up, to see an oncoming tractor-trailer truck. He began to run, but was pummeled, his arm also getting caught in the grill, dragging him about half a mile down. The truck driver never saw him, since he didn't have his headlights on. Raigen was found dead two days later, in a stream, his right arm missing, and his chest with a large tire imprint on it, which had crushed his ribs, lungs, heart, and any other organs/arteries/etc that was in there.
It seemed like forever until Raigen woke up. He got up with a jump and looked around. 'Hey, aren't I dead?' He looked over to an old woman sitting in a chair. She was knitting something. He frowned and rubbed his shoulder. There was no hole. Then he looked over to his arm. There were no marks. Raigen sniffled a bit, thinking that he had to be dreaming. Or in heaven. He looked back up at the old woman. She was looking at him with a smile. He smiled very slightly. "Umm . . . I thou . . . I . . . umm . . . whe . . . umm . . ." The woman stood up and walked over to Raigen. When she reached him, she patted his back, and still smiled. "You had quite a trip there, didn't you boy?" Raigen could only nod. "Yeah you did. You know what boy? You're dead. You died when that awful truck driver hit you. And somehow you ended up here, Rukongai 27, the unnamed city." Raigen nodded once again, not even knowing what in the world a Rukongai.
Slowly, the old woman told Raigen mostly everything there was to know about the Soul Society. She talked about most of the Rukongai, how things worked around there, and the Shinigami and the Sereitei. The last part intrigued Raigen intensely. When the old woman noticed this, she smiled. "You know, my son was one. He told me it was something young boys would like. Young boys like you. Maybe you should go try it out. It'd be better than staying here with an old fart like me." The two of them laughed, then Raigen pulled a serious face. "Do you think it's possible for someone like me to become a Shinigami?" The woman nodded, believing he may have something in him that would be good enough. Raigen smiled, growing rather excited.
Over the next months, Raigen studied hard, trying his best to become at least somewhat knowledgeable in the ways of the Shinigami. After about a year of studies, a few days after he had turned 18, he graduated the academy, and became an officer of Squad III.

Zanpakutoh Description: Raigen's sword is about one and a half feet long. The blade is silver (obviously), and has a simple whirlpool design in front of the hilt (on the actual blade). The hilt design is like a wolf's eye, since Raigen never got over the death of his beloved. It hangs on his hip.
Shikai Release Phrase and Description: Electrify the Night, and Reach the Sky, Belphegor!
At the hilt of the sword, a large chain connects. It then reaches out to Raigen's wrist, and forms a cuff-like link that wraps around his wrist, sort of like a hand cuff. From there, black and gray lace comes from the hand cuff, wrapping up his arm in a barbershop swirl sort of design. When it reaches the top of his shoulder, it wraps around his neck, all the way up to his jaw, the ties into a bow at the back of his neck. His canine teeth become longer and sharper, resembling a dog.
