Name: Saezuru Jiyuu
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Theme Song: "Short Change Hero" by The Heavy
"Lullabye (Goodnight, My Angel)" by Billy Joel
"So Long, Lonesome" by Explosions in the Sky
Physical Description: Saezuru's most recognizable trait is his vibrantly red, long hair. His next most recognizable trait is his height. Standing at an unimpressive 5'6" and small, but muscular build (hey, Bruce Lee was short too!), Saezuru is physically small and unimposing. He also veers to the pretty side of attractive, with large, emerald green eyes and delicate features. He's almost always smiling, and is never still. Despite his obviously visible attractiveness, Saezuru has numerous scars, particularly whip scars on his back. Saezuru wears the normal Shinigami black uniform, but can frequently be seen without shoes or socks. A constant piece of his wardrobe is a gold chain around his neck that holds a jade charm given to him by a former lover.
Personality: Happy-go-lucky and motivated, Saezuru is a ball of energy that borders on hyperactive at times. Saezuru puts his seemingly endless energy to good use, training hard and working with his subordinates. Saezuru is highly intelligent, and is an excellent strategist and leader. He's loyal to his friends and his subordinates, nearly to a fault. Saezuru respects all life, and only uses deadly force when he has no other choice. He has a good sense of humor, and is often sarcastic in a good natured way. While he no longer has the short temper and disregard for others that he had from his younger days, there are times when Saezuru's perpetual good mood can dissipate, making him impatient and irritable.
History: Saezuru is not Japanese, nor did he ever live in Japan. He was a nameless slave of European descent, the son of Yemeni slaves and killed in 1586 by his owner at 19. Before turning thirteen, Saezuru lived with his mother as a house slave. At thirteen, he was sold to work on a coffee plantation. Saezuru was not a good slave, despite never having lived any other way, and was often defiant to his owners and the slavemasters and was frequently beaten for it, thus the scars. Finally, after Saezuru nearly instigated a riot, he was finally killed by his masters.
In death, Saezuru was placed into the 34th district, where he found a group of people to call a family and a name for himself. Despite finally having a name, Saezuru didn't feel like he belonged with the friends he made in the 34th. So he began to wander about Rukongai, going from district to district. While wandering, he met many interesting people and learned many things, such as how to sew, fight, read and lead. Still, despite learning all these things, Saezuru didn't feel any purpose in his new afterlife. That was until he met Minori.
Minori was a beautiful person, and a perfect match for Saezuru; kind, just, intelligent, witty. Saezuru fell in love almost instantly. Saezuru had finally found someone he felt he could belong with. Minori was killed by a Hollow that got loose in the Rukongai.
Words can't describe Saezuru's anguish. Nothing could console him, not even seeing the Hollow that killed his love destroyed. Saezuru enrolled in the Soul Reaper Academy after Minori's death to seek vengeance against Hollows. Despite being previously uneducated, Saezuru excelled in the Academy, thanks to his intelligence and determination, but his anguish and desperation for closure made him dangerous. He disrespected his instructors and teammates, disregarding them as useless and idiotic. He was a ticking bomb waiting to go off. And one day, he did. While sparring with a classmate, he nearly lost control and seriously injured the classmate.
After this, Saezuru spent a good deal of time reflecting on his life and his choices. Finally, he realized that he'd let his rage over Minori's death overcome him. It was then, when he resolved to attempt to move on from Minori's death, that Saezuru spoke to his Zanpakutou for the first time. Fushichou, a phoenix, believes in rebirth and that new life begins from old life's ashes. Saezuru's life with Minori had burned when Minori was devoured by the Hollow, and by refusing to let go, he'd never emerged from the ashes to be reborn, Fushichou told him. Slowly, Saezuru overcame his grief and was finally able to unlock his Zanpakutou's abilities.
With age comes maturity and understanding, and now, several hundred years after Minori's death; Saezuru has readjusted and relearned how to be happy. He has had a very successful career as Soul Reaper and hopes to continue it for several more centuries.
Skills: (I'm not sure if I'm allowed to use my bankai or not, so I just put the stats in, just in case. If that's not kosher, then tell me and I'll remove it.)
Melee: 40 (50) [57]
Kidou: 7
Shunpo: 40 (46) [50]
Reiatsu: 55 (65) [85]
Block: 35 (39) [48]
Sense Reiatsu: 25
Hide Reiatsu: 18
Zanpakutoh Name: Fushichou
Zanpakutoh Description (Sealed): Fushichoukyoku takes the form of a kodachi with a hilt bound in green leather.
Shikai: Fushichoukyoku
Shikai Release Phrase: "Open your mouth and fill us with your song, Fushichoukyoku."
Shikai Description: Unsealed, Fushichoukyoku takes the form of a pair of hollow jittes, which, when struck together and given a verbal command (the command should be sung for the greatest effect, but Saezuru rarely does this), produces a sound that can confuse, paralyze, or even knock out an opponent.
Bankai Release Phrase: "Let the bell toll, Fushichoukyoku Kanetsuki."
Bankai Description: In Fushichou's Bankai state, she takes the form of many bells on a harness strapped to Saezuru's torso. Each of these bells has a specific function (described below) and requires a certain amount of Reiastu to use their abilities. There is a limit on how many times Saezuru can ring the bells per release of his Bankai, this limit is increased with training.
Name of Bell (ringing limit): Description
Angreb (25): This is Saezuru's offensive bell. When rung, Angreb channels Saezuru's reiastsu into an invisible force. Whether this force is blunt or sharp is decided by Saezuru. Saezuru can ring this bell with Bestik and deal his opponent offensive damage as well as paralyze them.
Sovn (30): Saezuru can use this bell to knock out his opponents. How long and deeply they sleep is determined by how much reiatsu Saezuru uses when he rings Sovn.
Genezen (17): Saezuru can use this bell to heal others, but severe wounds require that he ring the bell multiple times, have some sort of idea of how the wound should heal, concentration, and also use much more reiatsu. Since Saezuru is not a medical expert, he doesn't know how most wounds should heal nor can focus solely on healing the wound in a battle situation, Saezuru can't be relied on as a healer.
Bestik (32): Bestik can paralyze an opponent. Like Sovn, how long and strongly they're paralyzed is determined by the amount of reiatsu Saezuru uses. Also, Saezuru can use Bestik to only paralyze part of an opponent, such as an arm or a leg.
Bordje (23): This bell creates shields when rung. The strength of the sheilds and how long they last is determined by the amount of reiatsu used.
Regere (1): This bell, Saezuru absolutely refuses to use. Regere can control an opponent, like a puppet. Considering Saezuru's past as a slave and respect for life, it's not hard to understand why Saezuru is so adamant about not using this bell.
